UPCYCLE ACCESSORIES | Morning 9am-12pm
For a super FUN, kinda crazy, really messy, totally creative, out of the box camp week we’re LAYING IT ALL ON THE TABLE….literally!
When campers arrive in the morning they will find a massive pile of clothing in the center of the room and inspiration samples and mood boards on the walls. Each camper will be given a sketch pad, pencil, and a simple challenge…make something spectacular!
Each camper may choose up to 5 large and 5 small pieces of recycled materials from the pile to use in their design
Campers may use unlimited fabric from the scrap bin.
All hardware must be reused from the pile EXCEPT grommets (those can be new).
Buttons must be reused from the recycled button bin
Hand sewing and machine sewing must be incorporated into every project produced
Finished projects must be sturdy and usable! This means collaborating with instructors during the design process to ensure sturdy construction techniques are applied.
Throughout the week campers may trade UNCUT materials with their peers or back into the pile for another piece.
Sharing or splitting pieces from the pile is allowed but counts as one piece for each camper.
Campers who exhibit unkind behavior toward their peers while sifting through the pile or trading will forfeit one piece of their stash.
Once all stashes have been collected each camper will choose 2 more pieces to make a simple bag for holding their stash for the week. Campers new to sewing will use this as an opportunity to learn how to use the sewing machine. More experienced campers can get as creative as they wish with their bag.
Once the bag is finished construction of the main project can begin. We have templates and dressforms for draping if campers choose to use them during the design process but they don’t have to. Partnering on projects is allowed and collaboration is encouraged. This isn’t a competition, it’s an adventure!
Awesome new ideas or techniques aren’t proprietary during this week, but to keep it fair, the originator of an innovative idea or technique that is incorporated into other designers work will be credited at the fashion show and in our end of summer photo book and web gallery.
We are SEW excited for this week! We can’t wait to see what kind of amazing creations come to life. We hope every participant walks away with a sense of artistic wonder, appreciation of community, and hope for the planet!
